My Wish List

posted in My Wish List |

Life is a journey. I truly believe this. You and I are travelers. Our lives are the journeys we take. And while I am not a prophet or a mind reader, I am fairly certain that most people are not taking the journeys they want to be taking, or at the very least that want to add a few detours to their lives journeys - detours that they have long since given up on ever taking.

I am not one who believes in magical thinking, but I do believe that what we think and believe about ourselves and others largely impacts our lives. It therefore makes since to become more disciplined in our thinking.

Most life coaches tell us that unless we know where you want to go in life, we will never get there. Unless we know what we want out of life we will never get it. So, I am going to start with a small wish list. This list will consist of goals, agendas, places I wish to see, people I wish to meet, things I want to see happen in my life and more. The objective, of course, is to develop a vision of my future and combine this vision with prayer, worship and fellowship with God in order that I might make something better out of my life, become someone better.

This is an exercise we can all participate in. If you want, you to do this along with me. What sort of results can we expect? I don’t really know. I do know that there is only one way to find out.

Of course, this list of mine will change, grow and/or shrink as I begin to prioritize my life and experience growth myself. The main thing I want visitors to this site to take from this exercise is to realize that it is very important for us to write down what it is we want to bring to life in or lives, what we want to give to life, and what we want to take from it.

Once we have our lists, we need to study our lists daily, and as we do we soon discover that our lists will begin to crystalize, become more defined and more real to us. Each item in the list will take on a life of its own, or we may decide that a particular item is really not birthing itself in our souls and we can remove it for the time being and play with the other items in our list.

If you have never created such a list as the one we are making, don’t worry. Neither have I. This is a first for me.

Let’s Start With The Basics

  • A Career
I have had several career paths I have wanted to pursue. I am particularly suited for work in the entertainment industry and the health and wellness industry. I am leaning towards something in entertainment, probably voiceover work. That seems to be an area that God has gifted me. Maybe even motivational speaking, and/or comedy, since I have done this in the past. The bottom line is that I see myself in a visible profession where entertaining others, helping others or making others happy is the blessed objective.
  • A Home
When my brother and I were burned out of our home, we were left without a place to rest our heads. We bounced from couch to couch, hotel to hotel, until finally my brother left for parts unknown and I stayed behind and took a house sitting assignment. Well, that assignment is over and I need to find a place to live that I can afford. But I don’t just want a place I can afford. I want a place with good light. I want to be able to walk outside and see the mountains, or the ocean, or both. I want my home to be clean, smell nice, have a study with a library where I can play chess, sip brandy, smell pipe tobacco (I don’t smoke a pipe, but I love the smell of the worlds finest pipe tobaccos). I want a nice kitchen, with a stainless steel refrigerator and a matching gas stove and oven. I want a large fireplace; I want the inside of the house to have exposed beams and be tastefully appointed with lots of beautiful furniture. I will add more later….
  • A Car
I want a brand new, 2008 VW R32, un-drilled front w/navigation. I started this journey in a brand new VW R32 and in the near future I would like to continue it in an R32. I will not jump on the bandwagon just yet however. The 2008 R32 is barely wet behind the ears. I want to see how reliable it is, what hidden problems might exist, etc. Until I am satisfied with the reliability of the new .:R I will putter around in my beat-up 1993 Volvo! But when I am ready, and hopefully this will be soon, I want to get a Deep Blue Pearl 2008 R32. When I get it, I will take it across the country to visit my friend Bunny who lives in BC.

Fitness, Wellness and Diet

  • Fitness
Strength and Muscle Baby! I want it. Sadly, I suffered an injury to my shoulder, dealt with a bout of severe depression and more or less starved myself the last month. The good news is that I lost a lot in the way of subcutaneous fat. I didn’t have that much to lose to begin with. Still, I am leaner like I have wanted to be for some time. The casualty in this war was my muscularity, which is largely gone. I want that back in spades. I need the nutrition to make it happen. I can’t grow just by wishing it so. I need fuel for my muscles and I need an injury free shoulder to be able to do certain exercises. I am on the way to being injury free. In fact, I may work out for the first time in around 3 weeks tomorrow morning. The bottom line is I want to get my muscularity, fitness and strength to a level never before seen. I can do it too! I just need the tools.
  • Health
Most people do not know it, but I was born with Cystic Fibrosis. This illness has been a challenge. I have beat it so far, but the battle has left me scarred and battered. Such a fight is not for the faint of heart, and I confess to being battle weary at times. Still, my health has been improving this summer in ways I could never have imagined, and I am even believing God for healing from this illness. In the meantime, I intend to do what I can from a dietary, exercise and belief standpoint to make myself healthier than it has have ever been.
  • Diet
My diet needs to improve, and it has been improving. I have reduced my amount of simple carbs, increased protein where I can and when I can afford it, but that is where the good news ends. My finances have not permitted me to really feed my body all it needs to fuel it like I need to. I am poor, and this has to change in order that I can feed myself fresh fruits and veggies, get a juicer, load my body up with antioxidants, trace minerals and other necessary nutritional components so that I can continue to have strong skin, healthy bones, rock solid muscle and a constitution that would make Superman jealous.

People I Want To Meet/Places I Want To Go

  • My Friend Bunny
Bunny lives in Canada. I live in Virginia. We are best friends. We have never met, but we speak on the phone sometimes 4 times a day, and have for the last seven years!!! What does that tell you? She is the sweetest thing, and I want to travel west to go see her!
  • My Friend Gordon
I met Gordon in Arizona at a convention back in 1994. We are kindred spirits. We are best of friends, and he lives in Scotland. Gordon is a personal trainer and he is one hell of a guy. I think the world of him and I have not seen him since 1994!!! He moved back to Scotland nearly 12 years ago. Has it been that long???
  • My Friend Nathan
Nathan lives in Oregon now. He was a college mate of mine, and we are also very close. We went through so much together in at UVa. He is a police officer, and a highly decorated one, for the the Portland Oregon Police Dept. I have not seen him since 1996 or 97 when he left for Portland.
  • Michael J. Fox
Mike and I share a lot. More than he will ever know. We both have chronic illness and have fought it with everything we have in us. We continue to fight. He is smart, courageous and seems like one hell of a guy as well. I would like to just sit with him and share perspectives on live, survival, struggle etc.
